    Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Asp210 of human ZAP protein.

    Background

    ZAP (Zinc finger CCCH-type antiviral protein 1, ZC3HAV1, PARP13) is an RNA-binding protein which inhibits the replication of certain viruses, including HIV-1, by preventing the accumulation of viral RNA in the cytoplasm (1-5). ZAP binds to specific viral mRNAs through the CCCH zinc finger motifs located on its N terminus, and recruits exosomes and decapping enzymes to degrade the target RNA (3-5). ZAP also interferes with the interaction between eIF4A and eIF4G on target mRNA, causing translational repression (6). Isoform 2, the shorter isoform also known as ZAPS, acts as a stimulator of interferon responses in human cells mediated by the RNA helicase RIG-I as part of the innate antiviral immune response (7).
