    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the amino terminus of human TMPRSS4 protein.

    Background

Transmembrane protease serine 4 (TMPRSS4) is a type-II transmembrane glycoprotein that functions as a serine protease. The extracellular region of TMPRSS4 harbors a serine protease catalytic domain and a scavenger receptor domain, which is implicated in lipid binding (1,2). TMPRSS4 activity has been implicated in viral infections through its ability to regulate the proteolytic processing of the influenza virus hemagglutinin protein and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (3,4). TMPRSS4 is also implicated in cancer cell metastasis through the cleavage of urokinase-type plasminogen activator and activation of intracellular signaling cascades that promote cell migration (5,6). These findings, combined with the observation that TMPRSS4 is overexpressed in multiple types of human solid tumors, have prompted investigation into therapeutically targeting TMPRSS4 protease activity (6-9).
