    Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with human SERPINB9 recombinant protein and reacts with an epitope surrounding Phe70.

    Background

    SERPINB9 (Sb9, PI-9) is a member of the serpin superfamily of proteins which bind to and inactivate serine proteinases (1,2). SERPINB9 is present in human CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, NK cells, B cells, and myeloid cells, and is a physiological inhibitor of Granzyme B (GrB) (1,3,4). Granzyme B triggers apoptosis when released by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (1-4). SERPINB9 may function to protect effector and bystander cells from Granzyme B during an immune response (4). In mice, SPI6 is thought to be the functional homolog of SERPINB9 due to its inhibition of murine Granzyme B (2,5). SERPINB9 was recently identified as a potential immunotherapy target, due to its role in tumor cell survival through evasion of apoptosis (6).
