    Human, Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human NFS1 protein.

    Background

Cysteine desulfurase (NFS1) is a component of the core complex of the de novo iron-sulfur cluster (ISC) assembly machinery in the mitochondrial matrix (1). This enzyme desulfurates L-cysteine. The sulfur from cysteine is used for the biosynthesis of ISCs (2,3). Studies show that high levels of NFS1 are essential to cancer cells when oxygen levels are above the 3–8% oxygen concentration typical of most tissues. Strong NFS1 expression is necessary for primary lung tumor growth and NFS1 protects lung adenocarcinomas from ferroptosis in reaction to oxidative damage (2). In addition, suppression of NFS1 expression leads to growth inhibition of some breast cancer cells (3).
