    Specificity / Sensitivity

Mfsd2a (E8U2O) Rabbit mAb recognizes endogenous levels of total Mfsd2a protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of mouse Mfsd2a protein.

    Background

Mfsd2a is a sodium-dependent lysophosphatidylcholine symporter (1). It regulates lipid metabolism, growth and development, and motor function (2). It transports lysophosphatidylcholines consisting of omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or other long-chain fatty acids. Mfsd2a was shown to be critical for the brain to take up DHA from plasma (3). Furthermore, Mfsd2a is required for the blood-brain barrier (BBB) formation and function (4). Lipids transported into endothelial cells in the central nervous system by Mfsd2a form a lipid environment essential to maintain BBB integrity (5).
