    Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Gly309 of mouse cathepsin H protein.

    Background

    Cathepsin H (CTSH) is a broadly expressed lysosomal cysteine protease involved in the normal degradation of proteins. CTSH is synthesized as an inactive proenzyme that contains a prodomain and a mature domain, whereupon prodomain removal, the enzyme becomes active (1). High expression of CTSH is found in several cancer types, including thyroid carcinoma (2). CTSH can also process specific proteins, like the cytoskeletal protein talin, to regulate cellular processes, such as the abnormal migration of prostate cancer cells (3). The human gene encoding CSTH is also genetically linked to Alzheimer’s disease (4).
